Long ago, at the three-way crossroads of Cheonan, there lived a scholar named Yu Bong-seo. He was called to serve the country far away at the border, but he could not take his little daughter Neungso with him. Yu Bong-seo left his daughter at an inn, and pushed a single willow branch he was carrying into the ground. "When this willow grows thick and full, I will come back." Neungso grew up beside that willow. Every year the willow grew thicker. But her father did not come. Neungso grew up, met a scholar named Park Hyeon-su, and they promised to be together for life. And only after a very long time did her father finally return. People called that willow the Neungso willow. Today it is called the Neungsu willow (a weeping willow). The Cheonan Samgeori Heungtaryeong folk song tells this story. The person you will meet today is that Neungso.
